Researchers at the University of Rochester successfully transferred a longevity-related gene from naked mole rats into mice, resulting in mice that lived healthier lives and had extended lifespans. This gene boosts the production of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (HMW-HA), which appears to protect against cancer, reduce inflammation, and support healthier aging. The modified mice showed stronger resistance to tumors, improved gut health, and lower levels of age-related inflammation.

Although the increase in median lifespan was about 4.4%, the significance of this study lies in demonstrating that longevity mechanisms from one species can be transferred to another, opening a pathway for research into using these mechanisms to improve human health.
